What is Braille?
Braille is a tactile reading and writing system used by people who are blind or have low vision. Each character is a cell of six dots arranged in two columns of three; the pattern of raised dots represents a letter, number or symbol, read with the fingertips.
This tool produces Grade 1 (uncontracted) Braille, which spells every word out letter by letter. It is the clearest starting point for learning and the safest for accurate transcription. Grade 2 Braille adds contractions to save space — we explain it, but do not generate it automatically, to avoid incorrect contractions.
